2019 Macan

We have spoken about the Macan a few times on our podcast and talked about how we understand why this vehicle exists. It has the same wheelbase as the Porsche 911 so that is a plus right?? In all seriousness, even though this was the base model it still was fun and functional in everyday use, see what I did there? In a lot of cases space is a problem; with maybe people in living situations have maybe room for one covered parking space. Clearly the 911 goes in there but you still something for everyday use that isn’t crazy expensive and still is fun. Insert Porsche Macan, now we tested the Base model which was adequate and can get out of its own way. The interior was nice and tidy. Even though we have not driven the S model I would imagine if I was a buyer I would opt for that model. So then you have your everyday blend in with the masses SUV that is nimble and quick that can haul goods and people all around town. 

By the numbers, this 2.0 liter turbo four making 248hp and 273 lb-ft. Now again, that isn’t slow but it certainly isn’t quick. It gets the job done. Now if you didn’t have the funds to spring for the S you could live with this and be totally fine. Now at some point we will drive the S model. Then we will be able to cross compare. This particular model was eye catching in sapphire blue which was only a 700 dollar up charge. We didn’t think that was bad at all compared most Porsche up charges. I would definitely opt to pay a little more to get an eye pleasing color in the Macan. Steering was tight, it did come with an off road mode even in this base model, and suspension worked well on and off road. We tested both just to be on the safe side. 

In closing, we think this vehicle is well suited for daily commuting, family vacations, all around family needs, and it is exciting enough to justify its existence. So if you are in a position where your family is growing, or your significant other doesn’t want only a sports car around this could be your car. I would imagine if this could be your only vehicle you would have to get the S or the Turbo model so you can feel like you are driving a lifted Porsche 911. In this base model Macan the only thing that this particular model shared with the 911 is the wheelbase. We didn’t hate it and it was well priced we thought at 61k. At that price point you are still getting all the Porsche build quality, and you are still driving the crest at the end of the day. Until the next one, CheeRS!
