The best of the bunch even though there are still more to come? I mean that question is just to make your mind think for a bit. Now I know the GT cars are on the way, and the actual Turbo Porsche 911 is on the way. Hear me out; I never thought I would have any desire or interest for that matter in Porsche Cabriolet. Now, when we spent the day with the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet I was truly blown away in that the fact the car is so good in every aspect. I will not bore you with Data because we did review the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S coupe and the numbers are exactly the same, so click back and read that article if you are a stat jockey. I am only talking about what makes this so different than the coupe other than the obvious.
The one major one is that most car reviews are not spending enough time on, in my opinion, is how the roofline looks proper. Now, Porsche has been making cabriolets for decades but, visually have always looked like an afterthought. They look like they took a coupe and literally chop the top off and stuck a canvas top on it. Not this bad boy, this car has the very distinct Porsche 911 coupe roofline all the way through to the rear of the car. THIS IS A BIG DEAL PEOPLE!!!! They have never seemed to have got that right until now. That was the major reason I never had any interest in a cabriolet in a Porsche 911 in prior generations. So this car looks beautiful with the top up and the top down and has the same performance as the coupe. Not to mention that beautiful howl I speak of towards the ladder part of the rpm range can be heard much better with the top down. It is such a glorious sound, and it is so intoxicating. If you have ever been in a GT car on full tilt that is the noise I am talking about, if not if you have been to an IMSA race the noise the GTLM RSR makes when they are on throttle that is the noise. It is UNREAL, but what I really love about this is when you put the top down you can get to the rear seats to store things so easy, and it looks so classy. When the top up in a black paint car unless you are close to the car it is really hard to tell if it is a cabriolet or not. Love that!
Final thoughts, Porsche killed the game with this one. Top or Down it’s amazing, it is fast, it’s classy, is nimble and beautiful to look at. If you have been on the fence on Porsche 911 convertibles like me over the years don’t be any longer. For you people longing for a Porsche 911 that is all that I have talked about and can be topless this is your time my friend. Don’t delay, go get one they are hands down so much fun! This new 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet is hands down the “Da Business” and we absolutely recommend getting one these! Great job Porsche!!!
