2008 Porsche 911 GT2

The last of its kind, the last true widow maker. This twin-turbo, manual transmission rear-wheel drive animal was a true unicorn. First and foremost I would have never thought I would have had an opportunity to drive one of these let alone be able to spend an entire day with it. I feel so grateful for the chance to put it through its paces. So let’s address the elephant in the room and say how rare this particular car is. There were only 185 Porsche 911 GT2 examples delivered to the US and this particular one was the most optioned GT2 in the world in 2008. Coming in right at a lofty 227k, that’s right 227k in 2008. So the owner of this car must have been a real boss because we all know the US economy was in freefall in 2008. Now, I don’t mention this brag or gloat by any means. I just needed to say that to put things into perspective because even in the Porsche exclusive world this is ultra-exclusive and a truly one of a kind example.
Now, all the high-level stuff is out of the way let’s talk data. So this bad boy weighs in at 3150lbs and has 530hp and 505 ft-tq. Now with the horsepower wars of today it doesn’t sound nuts however, this car’s power to weight ratio is off the chars. Most of those super horsepower cars of today are 4,000lbs or more. Also, this car doesn’t have a bunch of nannies to save your tail. You screw up just a hair the car will burry you in a heartbeat. Also, 0 to 60 is 3.7 seconds and top speeds at 204. All off the charts for 2008 and still lightning compared to standards of modern-day. This has to be hands down the most modern drivers car out there, you have to have a skill set to even drive this car anywhere close to the edge. I am not that driver, I pushed it on a clear road and used both lanes when I did my second and third gear pull and I couldn’t image driving this on a curvy road or track on the edge. I don’t have the skills for that. I would image you have to be the highest caliber type of driver for you to extract everything out of the car. Does that make it a bad thing though? Heck no! I embraced the challenge; I can see the appeal of a vehicle that is so dangerous yet very unassuming from its outer appearance. To most people, they would never know the monster that lies behind by glancing at this machine. I really like that appeal to it. The seats were track ready carbon buckets, not going for a long road trip in those. Steering was amazing, very tight and direct and manual transmission very notchy in a great way. It sports big 305’s from the factory on the rear and it needs every bit of it.
Final thoughts wow a true legend this car is. The Porsche 911 GT2 so special, so rare I felt so alive while driving this car. Every sense was at its highest when I was driving this animal. It needed to be this car is not to be taken lightly. I can see when you drive this car every time it is an event as it should be. I just wanted to keep putting miles on it and keep driving it. I said this car felt like a modern-day 930 turbo. It really is, just way more powerful and way more deadly and I love that. If you are reading this and you have the means and the lucky opportunity to buy one of these you better do it as fast as you can. Most of these unicorns are locked for a lifetime like this particular one but, if you are really lucky you may find yourself a unicorn you just have to be ready when the opportunity presents itself!
